Why Blind Beggar Records?

The reason the Label is called Blind Beggar Records is not that I am nor was I ever a Blind Beggar. No, the idea came in 1996 when I was thinking about a name for the Label. I was sitting in the Blind Beggar Pub in East London and had had a few pints. I'd read a few books about the Kray Twins before, and knew that George Cornell was killed by Ronnie Kray in March 9th 1966 (My sisters Birthday) in the Blind Beggar Pub. Reason enough to call a label Blind Beggar Records?
In the early 80's Gary Bushell (The Sun, Gonads etc.) and Hodges (4-skins) posed in the same clothes as the Krays usually wore. So did Mickey Fitz and Steve Whale. I saw postcards with Skinheads wearing t-shirts called "Eastenders" and showing a Picture of the Kray Twins. There was a song released by the Skinhead band "The Warriors" called "Free Reggie Kray". But all those things I found out later after the label Blind Beggar was founded. I decided to call the Label Blind Beggar Records, with no influence from Bushell,Hodges or Fitz.

No, it were the words Reggie Kray said in an Interview: “Ron and myself wrought some violence on different people, but we lived in a violent world and violence has been perpetrated on us as well. That was the way of life in the East End of London then” and he said ”The violence we used was against people from our own criminal culture. A lot of violence today is against innocent people. It has gone beyond the underworld now, it includes innocent women and children”. Those are all things which could be said by a Skinhead. And as you can see a lot of people identify them self with the Krays. Maybe now you know why I’ve decided to call the Label “Blind Beggar Records”. It is not easy to find a line between the Label name and the Krays but now you see more behind the Bars.

Reggie Kray has died in his sleep (1st october 2000) after losing his battle to beat inoperable cancer.
